The Clearwater Threshers were going for their ninth consecutive win tonight and their second consecutive series sweep, but fell down early trailing 6-0 after just two innings of play. Fortunately for Threshers starter Jon Velasquez five of the six runs were unearned as the Threshers defense committed a couple of errors, but unfortunately for the team they were in a big hole looking desperately for a shovel.
Darren Byrd came on from the bullpen in the third inning looking to help the Threshers shovel their way out, but it was the offense who really needed to step things up if the team was going to pull a rabbit out of this hole.
The team kept chip, chip, chipping away pulling to within three runs at 9-6 in the eighth inning, but still needed a big rally to make their 9th consecutive win a reality.
Unfortunately the team could not get their ninth win in a row, but they return home on Friday night in first place with a 7-1 record. Get your booty out to the park and cheer the boys on and enjoy a terrific fireworks display post-game.
The SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award goes to the bullpen for helping the Threshers get back into the game.
