The Clearwater Threshers sanpped a four-game losing streak on Monday night in dramatic fashion CRUSHING the Palm Beach Cardinals 9-0. The team scored three runs in the second inning to go up 3-0 and that would have been enough, but they added six more in the eighth inning for good measure just to dash any hope the Cardinals may have had of making a comeback.
Starter Michael Cisco threw his second terrific start in a row with this one coming after a short stint on the DL. He went six innings giving up just two hits with 5 Ks and one walk. WELCOME BACK!
The offense got singles from Tim Kennelly and Matt Rizzotti in the second followed by doubles from Cody Overbeck and Joel Naughton for the early 3-0 lead. It would be a pitchers dual for the next several innings, but the Threshers broke it open and slammed the door shut on the Cardinals comeback hopes in the eighth.
The team sent 11 players to the plate in the inning scoring six runs on just threee hits with four walks, a hit-by-pitch and an error on the Cards to make the game 9-0 in the end.
Derrick Mitchell had a couple of terrific plays in right field in the defensive effort, and Matt Rizzotti had a questionable home run call turned back into a ground rule double to rob him of his 7th dinger on the year.
In other news: The official Clearwater Threshers site has now gone corporate. It has been officially taken over by Minor League Baseball, and will no longer offer much in the way of local news. That leaves THRESHERS NATION as your only real source for Clearwater Threshers news. Help spread the word and send your friends our way.
Also, if you are already on FACEBOOK you should request to make friends with our page there. If you are not a FACEBOOK usre you should become one. Search for "Clearwater Threshers" and you will find our site and a Threshers group site. Both contain terrific photos we take every game. We (actually my wife Monica) take a ton of great photos each night, and there are pictures organized in folders by player, so you are sure to find pictures of your favorite players there. We got a ton of good shots again tonight, and I will upload a bunch on Wednesday to the site when the team has a noon game, leaving me nothing better to do with my time that night than wrap up the website enhacements.
Michael Cisco earned the SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award.
