Four Threshers Named to the All-Star Team

Congratulations go out to Fidel Hernandez, Dominic Brown, Tim Kennelly and Yohan Flande for making the 2009 Florida State League All-Star game.

This year's game will be in Ft. Myers on June 20th.

Miracle 1 1 0 1 0 0 3 2 0 2 9 16 1

The Clearwater Threshers looked to extend their winning streak to three games on Thursday night as they faced the Ft. Myers Miracle for the second time this year. Unfortunately the Miracle jumped out on top early getting a run in the first off of the Threshers starter Yohan Flande.

The Threshers answered quickly however in the second with a 2-run HR from Cody Overbeck and a solo shot from Derrick Mitchell to go up 3-1.

The Miracle would answer with another run in the bottom of the second to make it 3-2 before the Threshers grabbed two runs on one hit and an error to make it 5-2 in the fourth. The Miracle then added a run in the bottom of the frame to make it 5-3 as the game went on until the seventh frame.

In the bottom of the seventh Dan Brauer came on in relief and ran into trouble giving up a walk and two singles to load the bases with two outs. Walter Tejeda relieved him giving up a ground rule double to his first hitter giving the Miracle the lead 6-5 before striking out the final batter to end the inning.

In the top of the eighth Javis Diaz would come on as a pinch hitter for catcher Luis Arzeno and get a single followed by a walk to Joel Naughton who came on in place of Derrick Mitchell. Jesus Villegas would follow with his second hit, an RBI double and third RBI to drive in Javis Diaz and tie the game at 6-6. A balk by the Miracle pitcher would send Joel Naughton home and send Villegas to third to put the Threshers up 7-6 in this tightly contested game.

The Miracle would come back to take a lead on reliver Chris Kissock and go up 8-7 after he relieved Walter Tejeda with two outs and two on, but could not seal the deal.

Into the ninth it was the Miracle 8-7.

Tim Kennelly had something to say about that however as he crushed a solo shot to tie the game once again in the ninth at 8-8 with one out, and this back-and-forth game ran back into the Threshers favor for the time being.

Chris Kissock would return to the hill in the bottom of the ninth for the Threshers and put two runners on, but ended regulation with a double play to take things into overitme still tied 8-8.

Javis Diaz picked up his second hit in two at-bats to lead off the 10th inning and moved to second on a sac bunt from catcher Joel Naughton. Jesus Villegas with 3 RBIs on the night already would get a single to send Javis Diaz home, but a play at the plate put him out to avoid the go-ahead run with the inning still 8-8 going into the bottom of the 10th after another out.

The Miracle would lead off the bottom of the 10th by reaching on an error, and then got a stolen base to move into scoring position with no outs. After a sca bunt the Miracle had a runner at third with one out. One fly ball to the outfield ended it then for the Miracle as they won 9-8 in the end.
