Threshers Start Four-Game Series in Palm Beach
Tyler Cloyd Makes His Threshers Debut

Cardinals 0 0 2 0 1 3 1 0 - 8 15 1

After four consecutive extra innings games the Threshers began a four game set with the Palm Beach Cardinals on Monday night hoping to end a game in regulation for the first time in the second half of the 2009 FSL season.

Newly promoted from Lakewood, Tyler Cloyd made his Clearwater debut tonight, and got into trouble in the first inning loading the bases with just one out by hitting two batters and giving up a hit. But on a fly ball to right field Tim Kennelly made a terrific catch and throw to the plate that was in time to get the runner and end the inning with no damage.

In the third inning the Cardinalss would be the first to hit the scoreborad taking a 2-0 lead, but in the fifth Mike Durant cut the lead in half with a solo home run to lead off the inning.

The Cardinals countered with a run to send their lead back to two in the bottom of the frame, and it was onto the sixth. In the sixth the Threshers managed to load the bases, and then Yonderman Rodriguez picked up an RBI walk to leave the bases loaded with no out, and the Threshers trailing by just one run at 3-2. The Threshers would eventually plate four runs in the inning, and found themselves on top for the first time in the game. After five-an-a-half it was Threshers 5, Cardinalss 3.

The Cardinals answered in their half of the sixth however scoring three to retake the lead at 6-5 and send Tyler Cloyd out of the game ending his bid for his first FSL win of the year. Chris Kissock came on in relief to get the Threshers out of the inning with a K and send it to the seventh with the Threshers once again playing from behind.

It would not take long for the Threshers to get back into things however as they would score four in the second consecutive inning thanks mainly to a three RBI double from Jesus Villegas to clear the loaded bases and make it a 9-6 game.

Not content with that score the Cardinalss would battle for a run in their half narrowing the gap to 9-7 and sending the game into the seventh with the Threshers still on top of a suddenly offesive battle.

That is where things would go as the teams each went into their final at bat. The Threshers would get nothing in the ninth, but the Cardinals grabbed a two-out solo home run followed by a walk to suddenly make things interesting at 9-8.

Jesus Villegas earns the SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award for his bases-clearing double in the seventh inning to put the Threshers on top for good and secure the win.
