One night after going twelve innings with the Hammerheads overcoming a 4-0 Threshers lead it would be more of the same on Friday night with the Hammerheads waiting until their final regulation at bat to grab their first three runs of the game and force overtime.
The Threshers picked up two in the second inning on back-to-back doubles from Cody Overbeck and Arlon Quiroz, and scored an insurance run inthe eighth to appearantly seal the deal, but the Hammerheads weren't done.
Jon Velasquez got his first start for the Threshers since being promoted from Lakewood at the All-Star break and he looked good. He threw six shut out innings giving up just four hits, and Carlos Monasterios relieved him going 1.2 innings taking it to the eighth, but left bases loaded for Michael Schwimer who came on to get the final out in the eighth.
Schwimer would come out in the ninth to close out the game, but gave up three singles and two walks coupled with an error by the defense that allowed the Hammerheads to tie the game and force overtime.
The Threshers offense answered quickly however. Arlon Quiroz led off the tenth with a single, stole second and advanced to third on an error. After an intentional walk to Javis Diaz, Yonderman Rodriguez drove in the go ahead run and Diaz later scored on a Steve Susdorf single to add an insurance run.
Darren Byrd secured the win in the tenth with one walk the only blemish on his pitching effort.
Arlon Quiroz gets the SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award for his 3-4 night including a double and RBI and two runs, including the tenth inning game winner.
