The Clearwater Threshers are still looking for a win in Port. St. Lucie this year as they take on the Mets in the third game of the series. They lost a heartbreaker in the first game, and then got shut out in the second. In this third game they are looking for a little redemption.

It was a pitcher's dual however in the early going with both offenses getting just one combined hit through the first three frames. The Threshers got their first hit in the fourth when Tim Kennelly picked up a two out double, but that was the end of the offensive explosion for the Threshers.

In their half of the fourth the Mets got the first run across with a single, a stolen base, and an RBI double to grab a 1-0 lead going into the fifth.

In the fifth Michael Durant reached base for his second time getting the Threshers second hit, and second double to get the Threshers in scoring position with no outs. He would move to third on a chopper to third that put Joel Naughton out at first, and was left standing there after a terrific play by the third baseman on a shot from Cody Overbeck. The third baseman would again make a play on Jesus Villegas to end the inning and leave Durant at third going to the bottom of the fifth with the Mets still up 1-0.

The Mets would add a second run on a solo HR in the inning to go up 2-0, and it was into the sixth with the Threshers looking for their first run in their last sixteen innings at bat against the Mets.

Javis Diaz would try to get things going in the sixth with a leadoff single, and then picked up his 14th stolen base to get into scoring position with no outs. Unfortunatley for the second consecutive inning the Threshers left a runner in scoring position with the Mets coming to bat in the bottom of the sixth.

For the third consecutive inning the Mets would get on the scoreboard with two more runs to take a 4-0 lead thanks to a single, a Threshers error and an RBI double with just one out. Naylor got his second out on a broken bat fly to center field, but then issued his second walk to put runners at first and second with two outs. Naylor was able to escape th inning with no more damage, but after six it was Mets 4, Thresher Zilch.

The Threshers were able to string together two hits for the first time in the game with two singles from Joel Naughton and Cody Overbeck both with two outs. Jesus Villegas was then able to work the count full and get an RBI-single to plate Threshers first run in seventeen innings making the score 4-1 before the inning ended on a K to Javis Diaz taking the game to the stretch.

Drew Naylor got a couple of Ks to start the bottom of the seventh, but a chopper to short went off the chest of shortstop Jesus Villegas for his second error of the game as the hitter reached first. The Threshers were able to secure the final out, but with just six offensive outs remaining they trailed 4-1.

The eighth inning was a three-up three-out inning for the offense, and with Dan Brauer coming th the hill for the eighth, the Threshers were just six outs from the end of the game still trailing 4-1.

Dan Brauer would dig an early hole for himself issuing a walk to the first two batters he faced before finally getting a K to earn an out. After a couple more outs with no runs, the Threshers went to bat for the final time still trailing with three outs to go.

After two quick outs Joel Naughton reached on an error, but that was all they could do in the ninth falling 4-1 in the end.

The SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award went unclaimed to end the month for the Threshers on Sunday, and again on Monday to start June.
