The Clearwater Threshers returned home on Wednesday to face the Bluejays after dropping the first two games of the series. The team was needing a bit of redemption after a couple of very tough losses.
Julian Sampson took the hill for the team still looking for his first win of the year in his fourth start. Early on it looked rough for Sampson as the Jays took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Fortunately Julian buckled down and went five more strong innings giving up just one more run while his offense got control of the game giving him a 4-2 lead.
Yonderman Rodriguez scored in the second to tie the game after singling, stealing second, going to third on a wild pitch then scoring on a Mike Durant sac fly.
In the fourth inning Dominic Brown crushed a solo home run for the Threshers to take the lead 2-1. Tim Kennelly followed with a double, and Mike Durant picked up his 2nd and 3rd RBIs with his first home run of the year to give the Threshers a 4-2 lead they would not relinquish.
Michael Schwimer pitched two innings giving up a run on 2 hits to cut the Threshers lead to 4-3, but Jared Simon shut the Jays down in the ninth striking out two and sending the final batter down on a fly ball to left field.
Michael Durant earned the SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award. He was 2-2 on the night with a HR, sac fly, and 3 RBIs.
