MAN ON THE STREET POLL

After an offensive battle that saw the Threshers enter the ninth inning with a commanding 10-7 lead the Threshers apparently choked on a huge chunk of Tiger meat as they fell 11-10 in the end.

What do you think?

Eugene Tingler
Backhoe Operator

"I was very disappointed.
What wait...
who is that again?"

Sharon Knoughton
Truck Driver

"I just stopped in for a beer. I didn't even realize they were playing baseball."

Brian Young
Surfing Instructor

"I thought the olympics were already over. Those damn Chinese have always got something sneaky up their sleeves."

SCHMIDT LIST PLAYER-OF-THE-DAY

The Clearwater Threshers headed to Lakeland on Friday to start a three-game set for the final series of the season. Carlos Monasterios got his final start of the year for the Threshers and held the Flying Tigers hitless for three innings while the Threshers offense jumped out to a 5-0 lead.
BR> Unfortunately in the fourth the Flying Tigers offense got on track storming back for five runs of their own to tie the game up.

In the fifth inning the Threshers jumped back on top 7-5 only to be answered once again by the Lakeland squad who tacked on two in the sixth to tie the game at 7-7.

The would not remain tied long as the Threshers offense once again busted out with three runs in the top of the seventh inning on a bases loaded triple from Michael Taylor that put the Threshers on top 10-7 at the seventh inning stretch.

10-7 would hold until the ninth inning with the Flying Tigers coming up for one last at bat. Unfortunately in the end it was not enough as Lakeland rallied for four runs after two singles, three walks and a game inning single with no outs yet recorded by the Threshers pitchers.

The wife and I will make one last road trip on Saturday night to cheer the boys on in Lakeland so let's hope they can recover from this heartbreaking defeat and get a win.

Thank you again to everyone who helped support this website for another year. It is always so much fun getting to know the friends and family of the players each season. It is mostly so sad to know that another year has drawn to a close for the Clearwater faithful.

Only 162 days until pitchers and catchers report for spring training 2009.

Brian Schlitter "Really Likes" New Threshers Stadium in Daytona

"He's a little confused" says new manager Jody Davis

Brian Schlitter told a reporter for the Clearwater Threshers News today that he "really likes" the new stadium in Daytona.

A somewhat confused Schlitter was apparently unaware that he had actuallybeen traded to the Daytona Cubs several weeks ago. Brian went on to say "the new uniforms and logo are very cool too. That cute little bear seems a lot nicer than the shark we used to have." He also said that while he wasn't quite sure why the rest of the guys didn't make the move with the team from Clearwater that these new guys seemed alright, and the team was playing "a whole lot better."

He also had kudos for his new manager Jody Davis who he said was "a lot nicer than that mean old guy" who used to coach the team in Clearwater. Manager Davis said later that though Brian seemed a bit confused about the new situation that he was pitching so good no one had the heart to really try to explain what was going on. "I know he started a beer company a few months ago and maybe he is sampling a bit to much of his own product" Jody Davis said. "As long as he keeps pitching the way he is we can look the other way."
