SCHMIDT LIST PLAYER-OF-THE-DAY
The Clearwater Threshers faced the Ft. Myers Miracle on Saturday night to open the final home series of the 2008 season. The Threshers offense was hot early scoring two in the second, and two in the third while starter Drew Naylor held the Miracle to just one run over seven innings of work. Matt German closed out the final two innings giving up no hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Mike Eylward got the Threshers on the board in the second inning with a two run blast over the left field wall. The Miracle picked up a solo home run in the third inning, but the Threshers added two more in their half of the inning to put the score at 4-1, and that would hold up for the rest of the game.
The 2008 Clearwater Threshers website awards were announced today and the players will find the awards in their lockers after the Sunday afternoon game. Congratulations to all of the winners, and thank you to all of the fans who voted for this year's awards. Despite the team's record this season there have been some terrific individual performances, and once again it has been fun to be at the park for another season. With just two games remaining at home I'll be going through baseball withdrawal soon.
I'll plan on making one last roadtrip to Lakeland next Saturday for a final farewell to the 2008 squad.
