SCHMIDT LIST PLAYER-OF-THE-GAME
One night after an offensive explosion from the Miracle the Threshers pitching staff came to the park and held the Miracle scoreless through ten innings, but unfortuantely the Miracle staff did the same for the Threshers.
In the eleventh inning Quintin Berry picked up his third hit of the night, and stole second base to pick up his 40th stolen base of the year. With that steal Quintin tied the Clearwater all-time record for steals in a season, and we still have one full month of ball to play.
The Miracle then hit Rob Watson to put men at first and second, but they then earned a double play to leave Watson at second with two outs. Gus Milner was intentionally walked, but one ball went over the head of the catcher on a pitch out moving Rob Watson to third with Milner eventually on first. Milner would then steal second with the team's RBI leader John Urick at the plate. Johnny U was walked on five pitches bringing Kevin Mahar to the plate for the fifth time still looking for his first hit of the night.
Kevin Mahar would remain hitless in his fifth at-bat but reached on an error that scored Watson from third and then Gus Milner scored as well to give the Threshers a 2-0 lead. Tuffy Gosewisch then crushed a deep fly ball off the wall in right field for his first hit, a double, that plated two more runs and suddenly this low scoring affair had broken wide open in favor of the Threshers. After finally getting the third out in the inning the Miracle came up in the bottom of the eleventh with one last gasp.
Matt SMith held the Miracle in check as the Threshers staff had done all night with Andy Cruse, Bear Hill, Matt German and Matt Smith combining to shut out the Miracle. Fifteen runs and fifteen hits fewer than the Miracle had grabbed against the Threshers on Thursday.
