BOX SCORE
Well...
I had said I was going to take the weekend off from writing, but the effort from Clay Harris tonight was so monumental that I could not let it pass without giving it at least a quick write up.
John Urick had a solid night going 3-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Adrian Cardenas had a terrific night as well going 2-4 with a triple an RBI and three runs scores. Clay Harris had a SPECTACULAR night however overshadowing those performances with a performance for the ages. Harris was more than solid at the plate going 3-3 on the night with 3 home runs, and 6 RBIs.
Clay has been on fire in his last eight games hitting .640 (16-25) over that span with 16 RBIs, and only one strikeout. To say that Clay was the winner of tonight's Schmidt List Award does not even do the performance justice. I think I'm going to have to invent some completely new category of award, like perhaps the GOLDEN SCHMIDT AWARD OF MAGNIFICENCE to do justice to the performance.
In any event the Threshers easily cruised to a victory picking up 3 runs in the first inning on Adrian Cardenas' RBI triple followed by the first of Clay's home runs good enough to give the team a quick 3-0 advantage. Edgar Garcia picked up his eight win of the year with a solid six inning outing, and Brian Schlitter, Alex Concepcion and Bear Hill each added one inning from the bullpen and the Threshers cruised to victory.
Appearantly the Mets didn't appreciate Clay Harris effort as much as some of the rest of us because to top off his night after getting three home runs in his first three at bats Clay was hit by a pitch in his next two at bats. On the second hit by pitch he even picked up an RBI since the bases were loaded, his sixth RBI of the night. (I always knew those Mets were evil bastards!)
Edgar Garcia of the Threshers was ejected in the seventh inning for hitting a Mets batter in retaliation, and two Mets pitchers were ejected in the game for hitting Clay Harris and Tuffy Gosewisch with pitches. It should make for an interesting conclusion to the sereis in the Sunday matinee.
