Well...my mother always told me if you don't have anything good to say then don't say anything at all.
I thought that I was going to have something VERY good to say as the Threshers battled back in a pitcher's dual to take the lead in a hard fought game by picking up runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 2-1 lead. Matt Spencer stole a base in the seventh, and then made an AWESOME slide into home to avoid the tag on a close play and give the Threshers a 2-1 advantage.
That lead would hold until the ninth when with two outs an un-named player threw what would have been the game ending out over the head of the first baseman allowing the Yankees to tie the game. The Yankees would pick up a solo home run in the eleventh and win it.
Enough said.
Fortunately the game was still credited to the first half of the season which has been over for the Threshers for quite some time. The team moves to Tampa now for the final three games of the first half of the season before they will get a fresh start and a record of 0-0 going into Thursday night's game. Tuesday is a scheduled double header to make up for a rain out a week or so ago, and then a final game is scheduled for Wednesday.
My yard needs some more rain. Let's pray for it.
In other news...
The second half of the season will belong to our team and we will look back at these first 70 games as an anomaly. There is way too much talent on our squad to repeat the performance of the first half two times in a row.
I know in my heart of hearts, and I hope our players know as well that they have it in them to take the second half and make a playoff run happen.
The SCHMIDT LIST award went to Matt Spencer for his effort.
