The Threshers returned home to Brighthouse Field on Thursday night and got caught in a pitchers dual that would last the entire night. Threshers' starter Zack Segovia had his strongest game of the year and faced Travis Wood of Sarasota who had a very nice outing himself.
Travis Wood however would be the first to give up a run. After holding the Threshers hitless through 3.2 innings Adrian Cardenas picked up a single, and then Clay Harris walked. Matt Spencer then picked up the game's first RBI scoring Cardenas from second on a shot to right field.
The game would remain 1-0 for the Threshers until the seventh inning when Zack Segovia gave up his first run on a lead off home run from Todd Frazier of the Reds. After recording two more outs Segovia was retired for Bear Hill who came on out of the bullpen. Hill shut the Reds down the rest of the way giving up just one hit in 2.1 innings of work to bring the Threshers to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning with the game still tied a 1-1.
The Threshers came out with a vengeance in the ninthpicking up a lead off single from PJ Antoniato, and another from Adrian Cardenas who would move to second on a Reds error leaving men at second and third with no outs. Clay Harris was then walked to load the bases, still no outs on the board.
The Reds buckled down getting Matt Spencer to ground out, and then Gus Milner recorded the second out on a broken bat pop fly to second. John Urick was then summoned from the dugout to make his first appearance of the game as a pinch hitter in place of Jake Blalock. Johnny U worked the count full, then battled off three more pitches before being hit by a pitch to send the winning run home and give the Threshers the 2-0 win.
For their combined pitching effort to hold the Reds to just one run and five hits the SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award would go to Zack Segovia and Bear Hill. Adrian Cardenas also had another good night getting his third consecutive two-hit game in hes first three games back from the DL to move his season batting average to a team high .390.
