The Clearwater Threshers were shut out on Monday night and held to just one hit against their cross county rivals the Dunedin Bluejays, but they bounced right back and picked up a come-from-behind win on Tuesday to right their ship. The team took advantage of an early Jays error that allowed Quintin Berry to reach as the lead-off batter in the first inning. Berry would then steal second base, and later score on an RBI single from Clay Harris.
In the bottom of the first inning Dan Brauer picked up two quick ground outs against the Bluejays, but then walked two men and gave up back-to-back singles that scored two runs for Dunedin putting them up 2-1. The Jays added one more run in the fifth inning off of Brauer with a double and a single, and ended the fifth inning on top of the Threshers 3-1.
In the sixth inning Gus Milner, who had his 18 game hitting streak ended on Monday curshed a home run with Clay Harris on base to tie the game at 3-3, and in the seventh inning Adrian Cardenas became the hero of the night by picking up his first home run of the year to put the Threshers on top for good as the team went on to win the game 4-3.
Tonight was Adrian Cardenas' first game back with the team since April 17th when he was sidelined with a back injury. At the time he went out he was leading the team with a .347 batting average, and it appears he didn't miss a beat by sitting out that long. He was 2-3 at the plate on the night with a walk, a double, and of course, the game-winning home run. Welcome back Adrian!
The SCHMIDT LIST players of the game award went to Adrian Cardenas for his sweet performance in his first game back from the DL.
