The Clearwater Threshers got down early when the Hammerheads tagged them for three runs in the first inning, and added two more runs in the third, and two in the fourth innings to go up 7-1 on the home team.
The Threshers refused to go down quietly though as they rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut things to 7-5, and Johnny U! crushed a solo home run in the seventh to make things interesting at 7-6.
Unfortunately the team could get no more on the night as they fell in the end 7-6 to the Hammerheads.
The team gets the day off on Sunday for Mother's day, and then visits their cross-county rivals the Dunedin Bluejays for a three-game set beginning on Monday, before returning home on Thursday to face the Sarasota Reds for three games.
In tonight's game the bullpen duo of Brian Schlitter and Sam Walls earned the SCHMIDT LIST players of the game award for shutting down the Hammerheads, and allowing the Threshers to rally. Johnny U! picked up an honorable mention as the only Thresher with two hits on the night good for a double, a home run, 2 runs scored, and an RBI.
