Clearwater Threshers Drop Another

Team Now in Sole Possession of Last Place

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Miracle 0 1 5 1 0 0 0 2 0 9 13 2
Threshers 0 0 1 2 0 0 0 0 0 3 8 1

Darren Byrd got his second try at his first start of the year tonight. He got a start this past Saturday night, but faced just one batter, giving up a hit, before the game was called due to rain. Though the weather cooperated a little better for him tonight his pitching did not. He could only last 2.2 innings before being pulled after giving up three hits and three walks in the third inning. At the end of three inning the Clearwater Threshers trailed 6-1

Nate Johnson came on in relief and would go through the sixth inning throwing 3.1 innings giving up a run on five hits with four Ks and one walk. Meanwhile the Threshers added two more runs to cut the deficit to 7-3 after six innings.

Andrew Cruse then took the hill for the team. In the seventh Andy set the Miracle down in order, but in the eight inning they gave him trouble. The Miracle would pick up two more runs in the inning after Cruse walked the first two hitters, then gave up back to back singles. Andrew came to Clearwater at the end of 2007 and started four games for the team, including two games in the playoffs. Over that time he was superb, but this season he has really struggled with his transition to the bullpen. He has given up nine runs on seven hits with just one K and 6 walks in 7.1 innings over work over four games. Let's hope he can get one solid outing under his belt soon, or his confidence may be shot for the season.

Matt German closed out the final frame for the home team giving up no runs on one hit with a hit batsman. Meanwhile the offense could never make any headway as the team fell 9-3 in the end.
