Winner Winner, but No Steak Dinner Threshers Officially Have a Winning Streak on the Books 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E Yankees 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 1 8 0 Threshers 0 2 1 0 0 0 0 0 - 3 13 0 At the beginning of the season this year the Threshers manager Razor Shines promised the pitching staff a steak dinner for every shut out, and the position players a steak dinner for every 15 hit performance in a win. The team came close on both counts tonight, but in the end a win was more valuable to the team than the steak dinner ever could have been. The offense was on track getting three runs on thirteen hits, and the pitching staff carried a shutout into the ninth inning when the Yankees gathered two ugly hits good for a double and a triple to sneak in one run under the wire. In any event it was good for the Threshers' second win in a row, a feat the team had not yet managed in this young season. Quintin Berry, Gus Milner and Welinson Baez each picked up RBIs with Milner addind a run along with Fidel Hernandez and Matt Spencer who was 4-4 on the night. Starter Edgar Garcia went seven innings giving up no runs while scattering six hits with eight strikouts and one walk, and Brett Harker and Sam Walls each threw one inning of reilief. Walls would be tagged for the only Yankees run of the night, but both hits he gave up were seeing eye jobs that found holes in just the right place. All-in-all it was a terrific team effort, and it gave the team their first two-game winning streak of the year. Edgar Garcia picked up the SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award with an addtional shout out going to Matt Spencer for his 4-4 night and to Gus Milner for his performance with a double, an RBI, a run and a walk on 2-3 at the plate. It was only fitting that the first winner would be Chester Hasbrouk of Palm Harbor, FL. Chester was known as the "Godfather of Baseball" at the old Jack Russell stadium and was an 18 year season ticket holder before his health forced him to give up his season tickets when the team moved to the new stadium. Chester made his first trip to the new park earlier this season and registered to win then. I was lucky enough to get to say hello to Chester when he was at the game and to have my picture taken with "the Godfater" and show him my respect when he was at the park.
