Teams Combine for 31 Hits and 17 Runs in Marathon Slugfest

The Clearwater Threshers jumped out with two runs in the first inning to take an early lead, but that lead proved short lived as the Yankees rallied for four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Threshers came back to tie the game in the third inning at 4-4, and then stormed out to an 8-4 lead in the fifth inning on two walks, two sac bunts two singles and one Yankee throwing error.

Meawhile the Yankees went to work chipping away at the lead picking up runs in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings to tie the game a 8-8. Tat is where the score would stay until the eleventh inning when the Yankees finally outbattled the Threshers picking up a leadoff double, and then a two out single to drive in the winning run.

Welinson Baez picked up his first SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award of the year with his 4-5 effort including 2 RBIs and a walk.

These two teams will face each other again on Sunday at Tampa beginning at 1:00 and will then end the series at Clearwater on Monday night.
