Threshers Fall to Reds

Late Reds Rally Dooms Threshers

Phillies 2007 first round draft pick Joe Savery took the hill for the Threshers on Thursday night looking to add another victory to the win column for the team. Unfortunately the Reds had other things in mind as they jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning plating two runs on two doubles and a single.

Savery sent the Reds down in order in the second inning, but gave up another run in the third on two singles and a sac fly allowing the Reds to extend their lead to 3-0. The Threshers though were not prepared to go down easily and rallied for three runs in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 3-3.

Welinson Baez started things with a single followed by a walk from Shane Victorino. PJ Antoniato layed down a beautiful sac bunt and then reached on an error to load the bases. Runs would then score on an out by Matt Spencer and a sac fly form Mike Eylward to cut the lead to 3-2 and then Gus Milner would single to tie things at 3-3 before the inning was over.

In the fifth inning the Threshers would go on top when PJ Antoniato lead off with a single then advanced to third with agressive baserunning and later scored to put the Thresher up 4-3.

Things remained tied until Joe Savery was pulled going into the seventh inning for Nate Johnson. Unfortunately Johnson ran into trouble with two hits and two walks giving up three runs to give the Reds a 6-4 advantage that The Threshers could never recover from.

The team did have scoring opportunities in the bottom of the seventh inning and in the ninth inning when they would load the bases both times, but were unable to get runs home and recorded another in the loss column in the end. Clearwater native Mike Eylward picked the SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award for his 3-4 effort at the plate with a double, and an RBI.
