The Clearwater Threshers staked themselves to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning on a Gus Milner triple that drove in two, and allowed Milner to score on an error after PJ Antoniato and Adrian Cardenas had each reached on singles.
Meanwhile the Flying Tigers began chipping away at the lead scoring runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to tie the game at three each. In the bottom of the fifth inning the Threshers got their first hit since the first inning when Matt Spencer got a double in the inning, but Gus Milner who had walked before him was thrown out at home on the play. John Urick stepped up to follow Spencer and drove him in on a ground ball single to center to allow the team to retake the lead 4-3.
In the sixth inning Sam Walls came out of the bullpen to relieve starter Edgar Garcia. He would take the Clearwater Threshers through a scoreless sixth inning, and then go into the seventh getting two outs, but with two men on after a single and a walk. Dan Brauer came on to relieve Walls, but gave up a single to plate a run (charged to Sam Walls) that tied the game before getting out of the inning.
Brauer would get the Threshers through a scoreless eight by inducing three ground outs, but in the ninth inning Dan gave up three singles allowing the Flying Tigers to plate the winning run.
Gus Milner picked up the
SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award for staking the team to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on his triple. Unfortunately that lead did not hold up.
