For the second night in a row the Threshers took both games in a double header from the Lakeland Flying Tigers, and the league-leading Yankees lost allowing the Threshers to close the lead to just on-half game in the division. The Threshers are now tied with the Dunedin Bluejays for second place and positioned for a late season playoff run.
In the first game of tonight's double header Andrew Carpenter picked up his 14th win of the year while going all seven and holding the Flying Tigers to just one run on five hits with six strike outs. With the win Andrew closes to within one win of the all-time Clearwater record for wins in a season of fifteen wins. Andrew should get at least three, and possibly four, more starts to reach and break that mark before the season ends.
With just nineteen games remaining it has gotten down to crunch time. The team is just one-half back at this point which is definitely within striking distance. Eight of the remaining games are against the two teams ahead of them in the standings, so a strong showing from here on out will definitely be required.
Every fan capable of getting out to the park needs to get out for as many games possible (even the road games) and show this team that we support them, and that we care!
Player in yellow denotes the SCHMIDT List player(s) of the game.
