After closing to within one game of first place to the Yankees the Threshers have dropped two in a row and now sit 2.5 games back. The Reds meanwhile seem to be rallying after a very slow start in the second half of the year. The Reds were the first-half champs and lost a lot of players to promotion, but they seem to be retooling to head into the playoffs.
The Threshers have also lost a lot of players including most recently Greg Golson and Josh Outman as they are trying to get things on track and make a playoff run of their own. The Clearwater team has not been in the playoffs since 1999 and the fans are hungry for some post season action, as I'm sure the players are as well.
The team has talent and they just need to get some chemistry going to get on a hot streak. They will have three more against the first-place Yankees next week to try to regain some ground, and meanwhile will have two more against the Reds and three games against the last-place Flying Tigers.
Player in yellow denotes the SCHMIDT List player(s) of the game.
