Alex Concepcion took the hill for the Threshers facing Kevin Whelan for the Yankees in what would prove to be a true pitcher's dual. Through 5 2/3 innings Concepcion held the Yankees hitless before surrendering back to back hits in the sixth to give the Yankees their only run of the game.
Meanwhile Kevin Whelan went 5 innings giving up just one hit to the Threshers, a double in the first inning for Greg Golson. It was not until the eighth inning that the Threshers would get another hit, this time a lead-off home run from Brad Harman to tie the game at one rune each. The Threshers would pick up two more runs in the inning, and a walk to load the bases with two outs, but they could not bring home the go ahead run, so things went to the ninth tied at one.
In the ninth the Threshers got two quick outs before Brad Harman would reach base on a free pass. Hector Made then singled to center field sending Harman to third. With Brian Burgamy batting a wild pitch by the Yankees allowed Brad Harman to score his second run of the night and the Threshers went home winners once again.
With wins versus the Yankees the last two days, the Threshers are now just 1/2 game behind the Yankees in second place. With one more against the Yankees on Tuesday, the Threshers will be looking for a series sweep and a spot at the top of the division.
Player in yellow denotes the SCHMIDT List player(s) of the game.
