Clearwater Threshers' starting pitcher Andrew Carpenter became the first pitcher in the Florida State League to register eleven wins this year, and he did it in overwhelming fashion. Carpenter held the visiting Dunedin Bluejays to just three hits over nine innings of work and struck out ten Bluejays in route to the win.
Dunedin had one hit in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings but were completely shut down over the last third of the game as Carpenter seemed to get stronger as the night went on. He struck out the first two batters in the ninth before getting the final out on a long fly ball to left field that left the entire crowd holding their breath, and then gasping as sigh of relief as the ball was caught to end the game.
For the offense Greg Golson , and Lou Marson lead the way. Golson was 2-2 at the plate with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored while Marson was also 2-4 at the plate with 2 doubles and an RBI in the Threshers 3-0 victory. Jeremy Slayden picked up an RBI and a run, while Brian Burgamy scored a run in the first with a lead off single, scoring from first on a Greg Golson double for the early first-inning run that would eventually prove to be the game winner.
Player in yellow denotes the SCHMIDT List player(s) of the game.
