In their final game before the All-Star break the Clearwater Threshers downed the Dunedin Bluejays in dramatic fashion. In the first inning it looked more like a comedy (ala Bad News Bears) than a drama with the team giving up four runs only one of which was an earned run as the team committed three errors in the inning.
The team cut their deficit to two runs in the second, but then surrendered two more in the third as the Bluejays went back on to 6-2. In the fourth inning the Threshers managed to once again cut the lead down to two runs when they started off the inning with four consecutive singles from Marson, Jackson, Urick and Brown, and then in the fifth inning the team would take the lead for the first time and never look back.
After one out, Jeremy Slayden singled, then Lou Marson walked. Nic Jackson then singled on a line drive to right field scoring Jeremy Slayden. Dominic Brown then knocked a three-run homer later in the inning giving the team an 8-6 lead that they would never relinquish.
The team added three more runs in the next frame including two on a two-run jack from Jeremy Slayden to go up 11-6. Dunedin rallied for two runs in the seventh inning but fell 11-8 in the end.
Five Threshers (and me) will now head to Daytona for the All-Star game this weekend. Carlos Carrasco, Andrew Carpenter, Pat Overholt, Lou Marson and Jeremy Slayden have all been honored with selection on the Western Division roster. I personally have never been to Daytona, so I am looking forward to the trip and the game. I'll update the webpage on Sunday with All-Star game highlights when I get back home.
Player in yellow denotes the SCHMIDT List player(s) of the game.
