After starting out the season with a win at home versus the Bluejays on Thursday night it was the Jays who got the best of the Threshers on Friday at the Bluejays ballpark.
Jon Lieber took the hill for the Threshers on Friday and the Threshers jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Greg Golson doubled then stole third and then scored on an error by the catcher. Brad Harman who reached base on the error then scored on a double by Jeremy Slayden, and the Threshers went up 2-0 after their first at bat.
In the third inning the Threshers tacked on another run when Chris Coste knocked a lead off double, and scored on a single by Jeremy Slayden. 3-0 Theshers in the middle of the third.
In the bottom of the third the Jays picked up their first run (unearned) when the lead off batter reached on a throwing error, then scored after a couple of singles in the inning.
In the fourth inning the Bluejays cut into the Threshers lead again picking up a run when the leadoff hitter reached on an error then scored after back-to-back doubles. At that point Jon Lieber left the game and Derek came in to pick up the final out of the inning with the Threshers lead cut to 3-2.
In the fifth inning the Threshers grabbed a run off of a solo home run from Clay Harris to extend the lead to 4-2.
In the bottom of the fifth the Bluejays rallied picking up 3 runs off of Threshers' pitcher Josh Outman to take their first lead of the game at 5-4.
The Threshers grabbed a run in the fifth, the sixth and another in the seventh innings to go back on top 6-5, but that was the last time the team would lead in the game.
In the bottom of the seventh Josh Outman ran into trouble and got banged around giving up four runs on three walks, a single and two doubles before Charlie Weatherby finally entered the game and got the Threshers out of the inning trailing 9-6.
The Threshers managed one more run thanks to a ninth inning solo home run from Jeremy Slayden, but it proved too little too late as the team fell 9-7.
After two games this year the team's bats seem to be working great as the team has already racked up 23 hits including 3 Home runs, 4 doubles, and a triple, but the defense has started off a little shaky with the team being charged with 5 errors including 3 tonight.
With the exception of Josh Outman's work tonight the piching has been strong also, and after the numbers Outman put up last year (2.95 ERA, 14-6 record, 161 Ks)there is no reason to belive that he won't get things on track and have another terrific year this year.
