OBTAINED: Signed as a free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2002.
OTHER: Welinson split time between Clearwater (63 games) and Lakewood (62 games) in 2007 posting 35 XBH and 52 RBI.

OTHER NOTES: In June of 2008 Welinson was sent to extended Spring Training at the Carpenter Complex to be converted to a pitcher. He is expected to spend the rest of the summer playing with the Gulf Coast League Phillies making the transition from third base to the mound.
