Layne Dawson

LAYNE DAWSON - RHP

Nickname: "Awesome Dawson"
Nickname Origin: Had a terrific first half in 2003 at Clearwater and earned a Florida State League All-Star Game appearance.

HT: 6-2 WT: 183 BORN: 9/13/79 RESIDES: Somerville, TN
OBTAINED: 26th round pick in the June 2001 draft.

OTHER:For a 26th round pick Layne posted impressive numbers in his first three-and-a-half years with the Phillies. In 2001 with the GCL Phillies he had a terrific 2.08 ERA, and in 2002 he again shined with an impressive 7-4 record and 2.76 ERA at Lakewood. In 2003 he earned a FSL first-half All-Star award and was in the league's top ten for lowest ERA.

After being promoted to Reading in the second half of the 2003 season he was knocked around a bit and went flat.

Always a fan favorite, we look forward to his return to Clearwater this year, and hope that he can get back on track, make it to another All-Star game and get back to Reading where he belongs.

Layne was named the April 2004 Jeff Crupper dot Com pitcher of the month. Layne held the lowest ERA of the starting rotation through the month of April, and was in the league's top 10 for ERA (7th) and WHIP (5th). Keep up the good work Layne!

Released by the Phillies June 2005!?!
